“THE CLAIM OF SOME INDONESIAN CULTURAL ITEMS BY OTHER COUNTRIES”

As we know according to the terminology that culture is the way of human kind product and the way how to express his ideas and senses. Every country has its own culture with a lot of cultural items, and so does our beloved country, Indonesia. Even, Indonesia has so many culture that spread out in each Island more than another country that maybe doesn’t have as many as Indonesia. Therefore we have to save our heritage as good as possible in order we wouldn’t lose it and we can proud of our own culture So we can introduce it to people from foreign country about our own Indonesia culture and heritage.

But nowadays, we know the fact that Indonesia is being faced by the crusial problem with Malaysia (actually i want called it Malingsia, haha=D) about the cultural controversial problem between both of them. We know that Some of Indonesia cultural items are claimed by Malaysia become their own culture or heritage. What’s up with Malaysia? Don’t they have enough cultural properties to show off to the rest of the world?
We often listen how Malaysia tried to claim Indonesian cultural items, starting from songs to Batik fabrics. They had been claiming for Indonesian songs from ‘Rasa Sayange’ until ‘Kakatua’. Then change the name Reog Ponorogo become Reog Malaysia that have the same dance like Reog Ponorogo do, smart way huh?

Recently, they also had been claiming for musical equipment, namely ‘Angklung’ from west Java and change the name become “music bamboo Malaysia”. This is most hilarious movement from Malaysian authority. ‘Rasa Sayange’ is also well known as East Indonesia’s popular songs. But, they use it in their tourism advertisement, with no permission to indonesian authority. Why? Why they do that? This is because they see a hole to claim Indonesian property. Most of Indonesian traditional songs, is written by NN, that is No Name. This means that they don’t know really who wrote these songs.
Let me ask you something, is ever Indonesian mad because some foreigner learn how to play wayang? how to make batik? how to play angklung? and so on? Of course NOT! Because It is OK if Malaysia want to learn more about our culture but the thing that make Indonesian feeling hurt is they claim that cultural items become their culture! That’s why some people call Malaysia with Malingsia (its mean the thief of Asia) and change the the tagline of Malaysia from “Malaysia, truly Asia” become “Malaysia, truly Malingsia.”
I will tell u if you were Malaysian, If you want to complain about how most Malaysian which ancestor from Java and other region in Indonesia, you can just learn from Suriname. Suriname is a country which have many Java related cultural, why? Simply. because the Dutch send them to Suriname. So it's no wonder that in Suriname, lot of people can speak Javanese, play wayang, make batik, BUT they never ever claim those as Suriname culture, because they know it's Javanese culture. Having lot of Suriname citizen, used it, play it, sing it, and what ever, doesn't simply give you the right to claim it!

So in this opportunity, I will let you to see the positive side of this problem. Lets think positive just a minute, how if the claim some Indonesia cultural items by Malaysia is do by our own discent from Indonesia, is do by Indonesian wearing Malaysia clothes. And they do that for wake us who ‘sleep in a long time’ that there are ‘something wrong’ in our way to save our heritage. Now, lets we see what’s the effect from all of these claims, our cultural awareness and nationalism sense are raise again, aren’t they??
My suggestion to closing this is adressed to the Indonesian authority, try to track down every single property with NN labels in it, wheter it is using old archive stored by the nation, to show Malaysian authority that “STOP! IT’S US! YOU CAN’T CLAIM IT!” then to all of Indonesian, includes you and me, lets improve our way to love and save our culture and heritage, at least you know the culture of your country.
Last, I remembered Butet Kertaredjasa think that Malaysia seems like to be our big fans then He said, “Its OK for Malaysia to claim all of our heritage become their heritage. Its really OK Malaysia, but with one condition, Would you please become our 34th province in Indonesia?? So that you can also claim our flag nation to be your flag too!! =D”
